Hello, my name is Christina Grettler. I am a third year at the main NSU campus in Aberdeen, South Dakota. I am majoring in History and minoring in Political Science. My absolute favorite historical essay that I have ever read was the Confessions of Nat Turner. Ever since I was a kid, my dad would tell me the bloody details of the Nat Turner Rebellion in 1831 Virginia. However, my favorite historical author has got to be Aldo Leopold. I've always had a love fort he outdoors and how history has shaped the outdoors and how we see it today, and in order for my brain to wrap around that concept, I read Leopold because he writes in a way that my brain understands and is hungry for more!
ReplyDeleteHi, My name is Della Donovan. I am on my fourth year hear, I am majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and History. For me, I love reading anything related to Ancient Egypt. Recently, reading about the possible discovery of the lost tomb of Atony and Cleopatra, found near Alexandria, Egypt at the temple Tapuziris Magna. I currently don't have a favorite writer.
ReplyDeleteI am a senior here at Northern. I am majoring in History with a minor in coaching. My favorite historical essay I have written was over POWs during the Vietnam war. I enjoyed reading the memoirs of the prisoners and learning how they were mistreated during their time in captivity. I currently don't have a favorite writer.
ReplyDeleteHi, my name is Logan Hinman and I am a sophomore here at NSU. Right now I am majoring in history and plan to possibly do some museum work in the future if I follow that path. In terms of historical writers, I would say I find Herodotus’s work quite interesting, as I read his Histories for an Ancient Greece class last semester. He goes over a lot of different topics in his work, but I was fascinated at his analysis of Egyptian life. Herodotus took trips to the places he wrote about, and even referenced those he spoke to for information regarding wars, buildings, and even culture. Ancient Egypt has always been a topic I loved to look at in history, so reading about their lifestyle was very interesting.
ReplyDeleteHey there, my name is Kristin Johnson, and this is my first year here at Northern. I went to Bismarck State College for my first two years where I received my Associates degree in the arts. (It's just a fancy way of saying I completed my generals). Upon graduating from BSC, I didn't know where I wanted to go, until my mom and I came here one summer, and she gave me a tour of campus. Since my mom graduated from here in 1991, she knew her way around campus, and during the self-guided tour, I absolutely fell in love with the campus and decided that this is where I wanted to go for the next couple of years. I am currently a junior or 3rd year and will be graduating hopefully in May 2024. My major is Secondary history education, and as of right now I don't have a minor. When it comes to historical writers, I really like reading letters from both world wars as it helps me to see how life was during the war. This has helped me to want to become a historian myself because doing so will help me to learn more about those time periods and allow me to see a more in-depth picture about the wars as opposed to just reading it in a history book that just skims over it.
ReplyDeleteHey everyone. My name is Kahden Mooney and I'm in my last semester before graduating. I've spent my time majoring in history and working towards minors in government and legal studies. There isn't one particular author that I remember more than others when it comes to history writings, but, like others in this thread, reading letters or other first hand descriptions of either World War or war from the last 200 years are so fascinates me. I think it probably has something to do with how my love for history first originated (my dad and I watching the History channel when I was little) but who knows? Looking forward to a great semester.
ReplyDeleteHello my name is Isaac Olson. This is my 4th year at Northern. My favorite book was Herodotus "The Histories". This book was one of our required books for Ancient Greece. I love this book because of the Stories that it has in the book. It makes you want to keep reading. I think the main reason I want to be a historian as well as a history teacher was one of my old teachers he was so fascinated by history. He never made me want to fall asleep, rather he would bring history to life when he taught and he is the main reason why I went to college in the first place.
ReplyDeleteHello my name is Jesse Williams and I'm a sophomore here at Northern State University. I'm a History Education major and want to teach history one day. I would have to say the book called Killing Lincoln had to be one of my favorite historical books I have read. It dived deep into how he was killed and how everything lead up to his death and what happened afterword's. I've never been to interested in more modern history but always still like to learn it. I'm looking forward to this semester full of history courses.
ReplyDeleteHi, my name is Bridget Fuhrmann I’m a sophomore and I’m majoring in History with an English minor. I don’t read a lot of true historical books, I usually read historical fiction books. Although in Middle School I did read Anne Frank’s The Diary of a young Girl. I usually prefer to read works set during war time and I prefer when the book focuses more on what normal life for people living during a war was like. Some of my favorite historical fiction novels are The Book Thief, which takes place during WWII and A Night Dividend which is about the Berlin Wall.
ReplyDeleteHi all! My name is Caleb Schlekeway and I'm a senior here at NSU looking to graduate after this semester, less than 5 months!! I'm a history major with a minor in coaching and religious studies. I find all ancient history fascinating, but specifically Ancient Israel and the early church with the start of Christianity. That being said, one of my favorite historians that I've read is Eusebius in his account of early church history. Reading his work, in part, is what made me want to be a historian because I realized how little I know and how much there is to actually know and learn!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Jacob Vetter, and I am a senior here at NSU. I am a history major with a minor in coaching. My favorite Historian or Philosopher so to speak is Aristophanes. I think he is a brilliant playwright that uses humor well in his writing. My favorite piece that Aristophanes wrote was the clouds, in which there is a there theme of attacking theoretical reasoning, so to speak.
